WiFries
A physical fast-food game played on the Icaros balance platform: scoop, pour, and serve with your whole body.
WiFries casts guests as a fast-food worker, the classic fallback for a freshly minted graduate, and asks them to feel the full physicality of the job. Built in one week for Building Virtual Worlds on a team of five, it was THE project chosen to show at the ETC Fall Festival 2023 in the Randy Pausch Interdisciplinary Studio.
The concept
The twist is the controller: WiFries is played on the Icaros, a balance platform you lean and steer your body on. Guests scoop fries, pour them into boxes, and rush the orders to the counter, using body movement and balance instead of a gamepad. The unconventional controls turn a fast-food shift into a full-body workout.
My role
As one of the team's two programmers, I worked on the game's Vive tracker systems.
