About
Hey there!
I'm Tyler, a developer/engineer working somewhere in the overlap between games, software, and interactive experiences. I like building things that are cool, fun, and useful.
The short version of my path: CS undergrad, then a Master's at Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center, and building things professionally ever since. Most of the work I care about is recent: lately real-time Unreal and TouchDesigner work for screens much bigger than my own, a Maya plugin I cannot say too much about yet, an ASL hand-tracking game you can play right in a browser tab, an air-hockey game with networking written from scratch (it won me a teddy bear and a banana), an award-winning hygiene game for kids, and a machine-learning library built from the tensor ops up. Before all that, back in 2023, there were VR and AR games played from a motion chair or an actual inflatable boat, plus a fast-food game you play with your whole body on a balance platform. There is more where that came from over on the projects page.
Most of what I do falls into three modes, and my favorite projects touch all three at once:
- Games: small, deliberate, and satisfying to get right. I like systems I fully understand and new stuff I can learn from.
- Software: tools, plugins, and the kind of infrastructure that makes a team faster with or without anyone noticing.
- Creative: real-time graphics, projection, generative work, and interfaces that reward a little curiosity.
I write fifty lines I understand rather than install five hundred I do not. And I write about the messy middle in my posts, where I think out loud, get things wrong, and occasionally learn something.
When I am not at a keyboard, I am usually playing basketball, hitting the gym, playing a game, or picking the drums back up after letting them get rusty. That is about as much of me as the internet needs.
